I was in the shower today thinking about Thanksgiving coming up and I thought to myself, I shouldn't get my hopes up because every holiday, something usually ends up going wrong. Really it's just a sequel to my childhood on holidays or really any night that my family made plans to go do something. It was always a big thing when I was little if we went and ate at a restaurant and then was usually followed by shopping or something. But it never failed just as we were going out the door something would happen to make my dad mad. Usually it was my clumsy sister falling down and getting hurt. I'm sure I did stuff too but I don't remember, lol. But we'd eventually make it to the car and things would calm down and then we'd get in trouble for laughing too loud in the car.
Anyway, I'm hoping with the recent changes that are being made in my family that we can bypass that breakdown that feels inevitable. But I definitely can do without the events that happened last year.
Last year, just before going to my parents, we stopped at IGA to pick up some rolls. My husband went in and my son and I stayed in the car. A few minutes after he went in, a grubby looking guy walked really closely by my car. I assumed he was homeless by the look of him and immediately thought 'ugh, I hope he doesn't come up and ask for money'. So I decided to keep an eye on him to see where he was. A few minutes went by and I noticed some movement at the back of my car so I turned around to see what it was. As I looked, I saw 3 men walking toward the car, and the man that I had seen earlier, was looking in my back window. I immediately reached over and locked the doors and decided if they came any closer I was going to drive away. Just about the time I put the car in drive, my knight in shimmering armor walked out and saw what the guys were doing. Before even knowing they had been looking in the car, he immediately started questioning them as to why they were so close to the car. They gave some bullcrap story about how they hadn't seen each other in years and were just catching up and just happened to be next to the car. It was intense for a few minutes as they talked, made more intense by the fact that my husband has his CCW and I knew that if they pushed it any farther he was prepared to do what was necessary to protect us. Eventually, they all walked away and my husband got in the car. After doing a recap to each other on what happened and what each of us had experienced, we both agreed they were up to no good. God definitely had his hand on is that day.
So as I said before, I sure hope this year will be less eventful.
